Say Hello To One Of The Worlds Largest Rotary Snow Plows! | Train Fanatics Videos

This Union Pacific rotary snowplow is the heaviest of its type ever constructed! Weighing in at an impressive 367,400 pounds this 3000 Horse power turbo diesel, constructed in 1966 made snow wish that it had never fallen!

This plow is currently located at the Museum of Transportation, in St Louis, Missouri!

The engine, responsible solely for the rotary plow, generally took 3 to 4 locomotives to move it a speed of roughly 4-6 mph! With 16 cylinders, the diesel engine powered its five 12 foot long blades up to speeds of 150 rpms!

This plow saw its last bit of action in Green River, Wyoming, in the mid 1980’s!

Its absolutely amazing that machines like this were ever constructed!

Has anyone seen one of these beasts in action? We’d love for you to share your experience!
