UP 844 vs SP 4449 Double Excursion

UP 844 vs SP 4449 Double Excursion | Train Fanatics Videos

Now here’s something you don’t see everyday!

Barreling along side of the I-15 freeway in the Cajon Pass in California, UP 844 and SP 4449 were neck and neck on and side by side marching up the 2.2-3% grade all the way to the summit MP55.9.

This magnificent scenery is the result of the San Andreas Earthquake fault where the San Bernardino and San Gabriel Mountains meet. Thousand of years of geologic movement has uplifted and moved the land to create rock formations that give a surreal look to the track layout.

It almost looks like a model train layout!

This was filmed back in 1989 by a local news crew during the 50 year anniversary of the LOS ANGELES UNION STATION. The helicopter was in hot pursuit filming the locomotives from above. The sound of the locomotives was dubbed in to replace the rotor blade helicopter noise.

Let us know if have ever seen either of these locomotives in action! We would love to hear your comments!
