Classic Shay locomotives do not have the stereotypical driving wheels of a normal locomotive, but rather some fascinating gears and crank shafts working in harmony . No wheels!

The Cass Heisler #6 has two cantered pistons in a “v” shape that powers the outside wheels on each truck.

Founded in 1901 by the West Virginia Pulp and Paper Company, theCass Scenic Railroad carried spruce and hemlock trees from the West Virginia Spruce Lumber Company to the West Virginia Pulp and Paper Company.
