Rare Victorian Railways Side By Side!
When was the last time you saw a steam locomotive next to a diesel locomotive at the same time?
This incredible clip shows the Victorian Railways R Class 711 moving next to their B -65 diesel in a great head on shot. Not only that, you get to see some great Australian scenery as well as the R-711 being pushed on a manual turntable at the end of her run!
The R 711 was on a test run to Bacchus Marsh in the state of Victoria after a lengthy restoration when this video was made.
The R 711 is a beautiful blue colored locomotive and tender. She is a Hudson type with a 4-6-4 wheel arrangement. The locomotive and tender together weigh in at whopping 419,800 lbs! She was originally designed for only passenger service and was eventually retired from service.
She is one of two locomotives remaining and is currently owned by the City of Greater Bendigo and carries the name “Spirit of Bendigo” on her side.
