Building a steam locomotive from scratch!

The T1 Trust, a non profit organization ,is currently constructing a T1 5550 from the rails up. A lot of work and money is needed to help get the job done.

The T1, when finished, will be a stunning art deco style locomotive with a rather creative duplex-drive 4-4-4-4 wheel arrangement.

52 of the powerful locomotives were built in all during the between 1942 and 1946. Roughly half were built by the PRR Altoona Works and the other by the Baldwin Locomotive Works.

Some quick facts about the PRR T1 Class locomotive:

  • Manufacturer: PRR Altoona Works and Baldwin Locomotive Works
  • build dates: 1941-1946
  • Wheel alignment: 4-4-4-4
  • Drivers: 80 inches with trailing diameters of 40 inches
  • Locomotive and tender weight combined: 699100,600 lbs
  • Maximum speed: 100 plus MPH

As of February, 2019, approximately 33% of the project is complete.
