Drone Vision: Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad
The Rocky Mountains are mesmerizing while going back in time on the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad!
This clip is a contest winner which features the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad in Chama, New Mexico. The line crisscrosses the New Mexico and Colorado borders numerous times on its way to Antonito, Colorado.
The first 30 seconds of this video look like an animation!
Featuring the Baldwin locomotives #487 and #488, the excursion railway is open from May to October every year. They even have an engineer and fireman school! For around $2750, you can attend and get first hand lessons on how to run an antique steam locomotive. Or, they have open air gondolas if you just want to take in the scenery!
Watching the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad #488 winding through green pastures and over trestles almost looks surreal!
The locomotives #488 and #487 are:
- Mikado Types 2-8-2
- Builder: Baldwin Locomotive Works
- Locomotive weights: 187,000 lbs each
- Build dates: 1925
