Big Boy 4014 passes a waiting freight on the famous Peru Hill outside of Green River, Wyoming.

The locomotive is working hard with just a little diesel assist to climb the 5 mile, .82% Peru Grade. This grade is one of the grades that the Big Boy Locomotives were designed to climb beside the more well known Wasatch, Sherman, and Archer grades.

  • Bearing full load weighed a total of 1.2 million pounds
  • Only 25 ever made
