UP #3985 Takes On Sherman Hill

This is a great vintage clip of UP #3985 taking on Sherman Hill with a diesel freight close behind.
UP #3985 is a Challenger type locomotive that was clearly up to the task of showing how it is done. Loaded with 6 dome cars, they must have had all UP executives riding on this one!
Notice how there was no diesel on point to assist UP #3985!
Built specifically to take on long grades like her cousins the “Big Boys” 4-8-8-4’s, the #3985 Challenger was designed to pull freight fast up long grades without helper engines.
