Beautiful scenery awaits in the Southern Arizona Desert!

This Union Pacific Intermodal Freight makes its way through the rolling hills near Tucson, Arizona.

Snow in this low elevation of the southern Arizona desert in very uncommon since the elevations encountered are between 3500 to 4600 feet.

Snow settling on the desert cactus and rocks makes for great photography.

The air so still in these conditions you can hear the freight trains coming from 10 miles away in the quiet desert air. The consists usually in groups of 3 or 4 in a time frame of 20 minutes before a lull.

The power units are diesel locomotives that are most likely EMD’s or GE units with an average of 4400 horsepower and weight approximatly 425,000 lbs. each.
