Sped Up Freight Conquers Tehachapi Loop
If only the freight trains could move this fast!
Drone video never fails to amaze!
This railfan takes full advantage of this new technology in capturing a freight snaking its way up the Tehachapi Pass in California.
What is usually a very slow process for freight trains is compressed into a fascinating 15 second clip showing the entire area.
Normally, an average train of 85 cars represents about 4000 feet of length.
Watch the train is actually crossing over itself!
The Tehachapi Loop is a 2% grade and gains 77 feet in elevation in about 3/4 of a mile!
Located north of Los Angeles, the line connects Bakersfield to Mojave in the Antelope Valley.
It is also one of the busiest railfan areas in the country with about 40 trains per day making their way through the pass.
