MW Cog Railway Company #9 Steam Show

Talk about a close call, this guy almost explodes!

While chugging up an incline as steep as 37% in some places, Mt Washingtons’s #9 cog wheel locomotive gets into a little boiler trouble.

The engineer tries to deal with the high pressure at first by hitting the pressure release valves, and then makes a smart decision to exit the cab post haste!

No one was injured and the engineer can be seen standing next to cab of the locomotive waiting for the steam to dissipate.

The Mount Washington Cog Railway dates back to 1858 and was built to get travelers to the Tip Top House, a mountain top hostelry that was built in 1853.

Amazingly , the Mount Washington Cog Railway designs and builds all of the equipment, rail cars and locomotives.

Let us know if you have had the opportunity to take the journey to the summit. We would love to hear about your experience!
