How To Bring A Railroad Back From The Dead!
This short-line railroad, known as the Coos Bay line, was set to receive 31 million dollars from the The Oregon International Port of Coos Bay for infrastructure upgrades!
You can see a tamping machine in the clip, which removes any open air pockets in the ballast to prevent washouts!Advertisement
The project, which began in 2012, was set to restore track infrastructure, as well as the rail tunnels and bridges on the route! In this video you can see these work crews restore the ballast, remove old sleepers, and then replace them where they are in need!
Rail ties are being collected by hand after they have been removed by machine!
All in all the project is restoring service along the entire line, which at about 134 miles is a lot of track to cover!
Are there any rail restoration projects going on near you? We’d love to hear about your local railways coming back to life!
