You Can Be The Engineer On The Sumpter Valley Railroad

You Can Be The Engineer On The Sumpter Valley Railroad | Train Fanatics Videos

Rent the whole train including the caboose!

Step back in time and be the engineer on this historic gold rush railroad in Oregon! Enjoy the fantastic scenery and get hands on instruction from the supervision of a qualified Sumpter Valley engine crew. Heck, you can even have your friend come along as well!

What can be more fun than that?

For only $1,450 for their “engineer for a day” program, you learn how to maintain, operate, yard switch, and take a spin on their mainline. You could be in the engineers seat making this 12 mile roundtrip run on the narrow gauge (3 foot) track.

There are two locomotives to choose from.

  1. The 113-ton 2-8-2 Mikado type number 19 (shown in this clip)
  2. OR

  3. The 42-ton Heisler Number 3 wood burning geared locomotive

Rentals are available only from late May through the end of September. For those on a tighter budget, you can rent the locomotives for around $750 under the “Engineer for an afternoon program” as well.

Either way, your gonna have a blast!
