The Nickel Plate Road’s #765 was stretching her legs on Metra’s Milwaukee North Line when she made a run by at approximately 70 miles per hour!

Showing she is tuned up and ready for the excursion season, you can hardly believer how fast the drivers and rods a moving as she roars by.

The 2-8-4 wheel arrangement allowed an increase in the size of the fire box which in turn allowed more coal combustion and fire output. This increased the steam developed which in turn increased the horsepower of the locomotive.
