Abandoned tracks in France prove to good to pass up for this railcart fan and his dog!
This black Labrador retriever is having the time of his life rolling down the railway with his owner as they barrel through the French countryside!
The owner takes his dog out for exercise and the dog loves it! Starting on the cart, the dog eventually jumps out so that it can run! Using the abandoned track and his own ingenuity when it comes to building his rail cart, you can see the fun we would all like to have!
Close up views of the cart itself show the mechanical thought and work that this railfan put into building his homemade cart. Built from leftover parts, he used a small 2 cycle lawn mower engine lawn mower to provide the power needed to scoot down the track at close to 30 miles per hour!
The track itself is owned by the French Rail Network (RFF) which does not allow trespassing on the rails even though this portion of the track has not been used for over 10 years!
What is unusual about this track is that is not torn up like so many other tracks that are no longer used.
Most abandoned railways in the U.K. are immediately torn up to make bike and walking trails. Similarly, a program in the United States called “Rails to Trails” converts abandoned railway lines to walking and hiking trails.
Let us know if you would like to take a ride on one of these homemade carts. We would love to hear about it!
