Infamously known as the “Can Opener”, the Gregson Street trestle bridge gets another one!

The 100 year old Gregson Street trestle bridge is located in Durham, North Carolina , and is one of the busiest railroad trestles in the country. Standing at only 11 feet 8 inches high, the clearance is much less than the normal bridge.

This bridge will scalp any vehicle above 140 inches in height. .

Norfolk Southern just installed a heavy duty crash beam to deal with the problem.

The City of Durham has made valiant efforts to warn truckers with speed limit signs of 25 MPH and flashing yellow lights warning of low clearance.
