Frontrunner commuter train stays on the tracks after slamming into a FedEx tractor trailer truck!
Luckily no one was seriously hurt in explosive collision in North Salt Lake, Utah.
FrontRunner is the Utah Transit Authority’s commuter rail system. From Pleasant View to Provo, the trains along an 89-mile corridor and serve a total of 16 stations.
Note: The flashing lights and gates were not working at the time of the accident!
As if to add insult to injury, the lights and gates started operation after the accident!
It is suspected that the maintenance crew may have been working on the control activation at the time since there was a maintenance truck parked next to the control bungalow. Or, the ice and snow may have played a part in the DC relay that controls the gates and lights.
The Utah Transit Authority is delving into the cause and to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
